R-APC: Party To React Soon As Oshiomhole Vows To ‘Sustain Trust’

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has yet to officially react to the emergence of a new faction of the party.

The new faction, Reformed-APC (R-APC), emerged on Wednesday and comprises of aggrieved members of the party who are mostly members of the National Assembly.

Hours after the group was announced in Abuja, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party would react to the development as soon as they have enough details.

“We have report of a group of people who have purportedly described themselves as a faction of our party. We will be able to give our reaction as soon as we get the full details and have the opportunity to review it,” Abdullahi said in a short statement.

Meanwhile, APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole has promised to sustain the trust of members and leaders of the party after the APC elective national convention.

He made the pledged while receiving the report of the appeal committee set up by the party to review complaints and petitions arising from the convention.

The former Edo State governor promised a better leadership under his watch, noting that it was a huge responsibility that members have entrusted the newly elected officials to pilot the affairs of the APC at this time.

“We will do everything possible to sustain confidence, to sustain trust,” he said, adding “We knew there were challenges when we contested for the various offices to which we have now been elected; so, we can’t claim we didn’t know.”

“For us, it is a huge opportunity to make a difference not only for our party but to the country. For us, everybody is important, everybody matters. We want to run an inclusive party but as I said in my acceptance speech, there are no losers.

“If we run the party efficiently and democratically, those who lost will find that their interests; whatever service they wanted to render are being rendered efficiently and democratically. As the saying goes, if God gives you power, may he not deny you wisdom; I pray for wisdom, I pray for courage and I believe we have it and we will deploy it to make peace within the APC family,” Oshiomhole assured aggrieved members.

On the committee report, he said the APC National Working Committee (NWC) would do everything possible to be different from the way it has operated in the past.

The national chairman pledged further that the party’s leadership would act on every report submitted to them and not sit on the fence, adding that they would be truthful and ensure justice prevails.

“My appeal to those aggrieved is the assurance that under my leadership, we will make our obvious mistakes but once our attention is drawn, we will find courage to make up for our mistakes,” he said.

Earlier, appeal committee chairman and former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, revealed that 24 petitions were received by the committee.

He added that the committee treated each case very seriously, noting that the appellants had a tremendous opportunity of presenting their cases and they did.
